As Kenny Chesney says, “DON’T BLINK! You just might miss your babies growing”.

I know. I know.  Life is busy, it’s hectic, and who has time to schedule, much less show up for a photo session?  One day it will all slow down and you will want the memories, so don’t put it off.Childhood is an incredible time of growth and change.  Life is moving all around you and going fast, but don’t forget to take the time to capture your child’s changes with professional photos.

Let me help you to memorize the tiny little details and personalities of your children as they grow.

Milestones I highly recommend:

  • Newborn (5-14 days after birth)
  • 6 / 7 month sitter sessions
  • 1 year milestone (and every year thereafter)
  • Don’t forget to sprinkle in some pictures of the whole family
  • I like to do the milestone sessions indoors, and family photos outside to spend more time and reveal your family’s personalities.

An interior decorator may tell you to put away the family photos.  They like to help you to decorate in a way that makes your house looks like it could be in a magazine.  Personally that’s not my preference.  I think having photos around your house is so important.  Your house should be a home, and being able to look around and trigger the good memories with your family is excellent for your mental health.

Make your house you, and let your children be able to see themselves in what you create around your home.  “Displaying photos is a profoundly meaningful way to tell your children that they are cherished and important.  It fosters security, confidence, and encouragement, creating a nurturing environment for their growth and well-being”.

I remember going to my Nana and Grannie’s houses and them having walls covered in framed pictures.  Old fashioned maybe to some.  Mismatched frames would make an interior decorator’s head roll, but the sense of belonging that wall gave me when I saw pictures of myself in their homes is indescribable.  They didn’t match their frames.  Some frames weren’t even meant to hang on the walls and stuck out due to the easel on the back of them.  But….their homes to this day gave me the greatest sense of love, peace, and beauty of any home I’ve ever been in.  That can’t be found in a magazine.

I could stand there for hours looking at those walls, seeing all my relatives around me, and knew I always had a place where people had my back.  Looking back at generations of my family and their childhood pictures was a way to connect with my grandparents and hear their stories of their childhood.  It also led to incredible discussions and stories that I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

Get those pictures taken and displayed.  You are telling your children “you are cherished, you are loved, and you BELONG”.  It also helps you remember…because if you’re like me, you probably blinked.

Key Reasons TO TAKE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS AND DISPLAY THEM IN YOUR HOME

  1. Security: Children who grow up in an environment where family photos are displayed are more likely to feel secure. They see their place in the family and know they’re an essential part of a loving unit. This sense of security can help reduce anxiety and fear, providing a solid foundation for their emotional well-being.
  2. Confidence: When children see their smiling faces on the wall or their family photos showcased with pride, it boosts their self-esteem. They internalize the message that they are important, which, in turn, fosters confidence and a positive self-image.
  3. Encouragement: Displaying family photos reinforces the idea that family bonds are essential. It encourages open communication, empathy, and emotional support. When children feel valued and loved, they are more likely to express themselves and seek guidance and comfort from their parents and siblings.
