Everyone who knows me knows I’m a huge fan of Miranda Lambert.  From listening to her songs (the lyrics seem to fit every mood I have), to seeing her in concert (she sounds even better live), to matching her love for nostalgia (her family, love of Texas, and the simple life), to watching her promote other women in country music (Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, her friends in Pistol Annies, and many more), to seeing her expand her business endeavors (owning Casa Rosa a restaurant/bar in Nashville, owning her own clothing line Idyllwind, supporting animals with her nonprofit Mutt Nation), and to listening to her interviews (where she is unapologetically herself and doesn’t address drama when some expect her to) she’s just a fun person to follow.

If I’m in the mood to hear some female girl power music to scream out while driving in a car, a heart-wrenching sad song, or a beautiful love song she’s always got a song for me.  I always look forward to her new music and am highly anticipating her next album Postcards from Texas.

Some of my favorite lyrics from her songs are:

  • Daddy gave life to Mama’s dreams
  • Just to hear that old piano and feed their faith, with the word of God and Amazing Grace
  • Ain’t no moment like when I’m holding on to you
  • If it has to end in tears, I hope it’s in 60 years
  • Just like a queen, three on a tree
  • And I just smile and say God bless
  • I’d put a leftover pawn shop ring on your left hand
  • You’re trailer park pretty, but you’re never gonna be Jolene
  • Ever since the beginning to keep the world spinning it takes all kinds of kinds
  • If we drove all the way to Dallas just to buy an Easter dress
  • 33, 45, 78
  • I’ve got roots and I’ve got wings
  • I’m the keeper of the flame, the teller of the story
  • You give me your armor and you can have my heart
  • Next to you sitting next to me, and we’re shaking that sugar tree
  • I’m a little wild child and a homing pigeon
  • I’ll keep a light on in my soul and a bluebird in my heart
  • You can’t step to this backyard swagger
  • Run and hide your crazy and start acting like a lady
  • On down the road we go

My very favorite moment was when Miranda Lambert actually retweeted me.  I had to look twice at the user name and verification to be sure it wasn’t a copy cat Miranda account, so I went to her Twitter and it was actually retweeted on her account!!!!!   This was after a concert at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, Texas:

Her clothing brand Idyllwind – Fueled by Miranda Lambert also retweeted one of my posts before I was set to travel to see her Velvet Rodeo tour in Las Vegas:

I’ve been fortunate to see Miranda live several times, and my favorite parts are all the surprise guests she brings out.  I was jumping up and down when the Pistol Annie’s came out to perform with her at the Bandwagon Tour.  I also got to see the Bandwagon Tour – Get on Again.  Both concerts were with Little Big Town and their collabs were fire!  When Little Big Town came out to perform the ending of Tin Man with Miranda in a set with piano only…..goosebumps!!  I had heard it on the Weight of the Wings album, Marfa Tapes album acoustically, live acoustic with guitar, but never acoustic with piano which was so beautiful!! Miranda hadn’t played it on tour for a while, so we were so excited to see it again on the set list, and then Miranda and Little Big Town transitioned into Little Big Town’s song Better Man.  So good! I’m not crying, you’re crying!!!

I’ve seen Miranda at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo countless times, attended her Bandwagon Tour at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands, Texas, got to see the Wildcard Tour at the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, Texas, back to Cynthia Woods to see the Bandwagon Tour – Get on Again, traveled to Las Vegas to see the Velvet Rodeo residency, and more recently saw her with Chris Stapleton at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas for his All American Road Show tour.  I love how she changes up her concerts based on the atmosphere of the venue and the surprise performers, opening acts, and co-headliners keep us guessing as to what they will play with her and who she will bring out to perform.  I was jumping up and down when she brought out the Pistol Annie’s at Cynthia Woods and Jack Ingram & Jon Randall in New Braunfels.  Best believe I was screaming when the 3 of them performed Geraldine!!!  I was bummed that I missed the concert series she had with Cody Johnson.  That one got canceled early due to COVID, so I missed that opportunity.  When Miranda opens her concerts it’s always with an attitude song and the cinematography of her videos when she comes out on stage gets me so pumped!  Actin’ Up and White Liar are 2 of my faves that she opens with in concert.  No one quite as bada$$ as ML!!

For one of my anniversaries I asked my husband if he’d do a road trip with me to see the Pink Pistol in Miranda Lambert’s home town.  It was cool to see where she came from and visit the store her Mom runs in Lindale, Texas.  My husband was happy there was a bar connected to the Pink Pistol and a wine tasting room.  He enjoyed meeting people and sitting for a few drinks while I shopped.  You can’t have enough Miranda merch.  Am I right???

We stayed at the cutest Bed and Breakfast in Mineola, Texas which I didn’t realize was where Kacey Musgraves grew up.  Crazy that it was so close to where Miranda was raised.  The B&B proprietors told us a lot about their history and encouraged us to check out where both took guitar lessons (yes, from the same man!)

It’s definitely the slow-paced simple life in Lindale and Mineola.  My husband and I wanted a steak dinner for our anniversary and the spot that was recommended to us was actually in a hardware store.  The story we’ve told for years is that we had our anniversary dinner in Mineola, Texas at Kitchens Hardware and Deli.  The expectations were low, but it was an amazing dinner.  Candlelight, live music, and quaint table decor.  They didn’t have a liquor license, but my husband was told to go through the kitchen, out the back door, and to the gas station to purchase and bring in our own alcohol.  He brought in beer for him and small twist-off lid wine bottles for me.  We still laugh and say it’s the best service we ever had as my husband got our drinks to refill from under the table.  My husband is from small town Shiner, Texas, so he was sold on this restaurant with no fancy airs or uppity clientele. We love adventures and memorable spots that were enjoyed on that trip.

Studio where Miranda and Kacey Musgraves learned to play guitar.

I’ve been to Nashville twice since Miranda’s restaurant / bar opened on Broadway.  Casa Rosa is a fantastic place to visit for live music, good food, and the Miranda vibe.  There’s so much Miranda memorabilia to check out while there, so that made it a lot of fun to look around.  The outfits from the award shows and the blinged out saddle hanging from the ceiling were fascinating to see.

First time I went to Nashville.  I was later disappointed when I saw the picture and realized a car photo bombed the picture blocking the entrance to Casa Rosa.

I highly encourage the adopt don’t shop mantra that Miranda promotes with her Mutt Nation foundation.  During Hurricane Harvey in Houston, she came to town as they were here helping to relocate animals displaced from the storm.  Such a special organization and seeing Miranda’s love of her fur babies is so relatable.  Mutt Nation has a shop and they sell some great dog toys.  I buy them every year for my dog and the granddogs’ Christmas stockings.

Following Miranda on social media is exactly my energy.  She stays away from drama and posts when she’s in Texas at some of my family’s favorite spots in the hill country.  Gruene, tubing on the river, listening to live music, hanging out with family…that defines our family every summer.

Miranda has some great interviews to check out on Hulu or Prime.  I love her Marfa Tapes special.  It’s on my bucket list to go to Marfa to travel with my husband’s telescope and check out the night sky.  Another fave is a program that features Junk Gypsy which are 2 women who were on HGTV, have a store in Round Top, Texas, and are vintage/bohemian designers.  They designed Miranda’s guns and wings logo and her Wanda the Wanderer Airstream that she takes on the road with her for backstage parties.  It’s a small Airstream that’s a cozy place for entertainers and band to hang out in addition to the bus that she uses for travel.  I just love her vibe!

Got to see the Weight of These Wings gate.

Recently, Miranda published a cookbook with stories of her family and the Ya-Yas who are a close group with her Mom, Aunt and Mom’s friends that have always been there to support Miranda.  It reminds me of the close bond I have with my Mom, Aunt, and cousins and how we all get together for our family traditions and cook outs.  The cookbook is meant to share stories through food.  She did a book signing in Lindale and I was so excited to sign up for it.  Thought ok…this is it!  I’m finally going to meet her!  But, tickets were limited and I didn’t get a spot.  Bummer!  But hopeful for another opportunity in the future.

Miranda seems to share time with her family at some of the same spots where my summer vacations growing up in Texas were also enjoyed!  Some of my family pictures in New Braunfels:

, I’ve had a lot of people ask me what I think about some negative headlines about Miranda for how she treats fans during concerts, specifically one in Vegas where she called out some women and told them they were “pissing her off”, because they were turning their backs and using flash to take selfies while Miranda was performing Tin Man.  I do like to see all sides of the story, so I did some research outside of media reports to see what happened.  I found one of the lady’s Instagram pages and from what I could see, it doesn’t appear that she’s even a fan of Miranda, but rather an influencer who frequently attends social events and concerts in Vegas to promote her page.  Videos shared showed she wasn’t even singing to songs and didn’t appear she knew the words.  They were dancing, but constantly taking pictures of each other with a flash up close and towards the stage (there were signs saying no flash photography allowed and it’s also a smaller more intimate setting than a huge concert).  As a fan, I would have appreciated Miranda stopping the flash photography in a moment that is more about listening to the song and being able to hear the words.  Miranda’s line is always, I’m here to play some country music for y’all.  I don’t think she expects anyone to sit down through her concerts and never talk or take pictures, but to be blatantly not listening and turning their backs the whole time to take flash pictures seems distracting during a slow, acoustic song.

There are certain songs that Miranda plays that are rowdy and she encourages everyone to be feisty, dance, etc., but there are other songs that are acoustic and so heartfelt that people talking and not paying attention is annoying.  If you have followed Miranda for a long time, you know her stories, the intention of her lyrics, and know why some songs are even hard for her to sing at all for her fans, much less if people are snapping pics and flashing lights in her eyes.  What I thought was interesting is that the same woman posted pictures on her Instagram after the concert saying “So much fun last night at Miranda Lambert concert”  It wasn’t until another person on TikTok had a post showing the incident and it went viral that the woman then started saying things to news outlets.  Her first post to me indicates that she was unbothered until someone else said something, and by talking negative about Miranda she was able to be on the news, do interviews, and promote her lifestyle page.  It’s apparent that she’s an influencer living in a mega mansion in Las Vegas opening packages from designer handbag companies and definitely doesn’t look like a true Miranda fan.  I won’t call out her name, but her Instagram name starts with Lifestyle With …… She’s always going to concerts (good for her), but it looks like her nights out are all done to promote her name and her page.  No judgment to her on that.  My reason for even mentioning this is for the people who ask me about it when I say I’m a Miranda fan.  What I can say is I admire Miranda for never mentioning it and sticking to what she believes when people were demanding an apology.  She called the women out, moved on, and I’m guessing was over it.  However, media traction kept it out there and I’ve seen where people on social media talk about Miranda negatively.  No ill will intended to the women involved, just my perspective.  If the women were hurt by it or embarrassed, I can understand that, but it doesn’t change that I also empathize with how Miranda felt in the moment of being blinded by flashes in an emotional part of her concert, while the rules were no flash photography.

As a true fan, I feel like I can understand her and like that she frequently uses the hashtag #musicismedicine.  Her intention on performing is to share her words and have people listen and connect in the moment.  I think it’s so special, and I walk away from her concerts always having fun and feeling very moved.

Music is indeed medicine.
