Dear New Mamas,
Are you experiencing sleepless nights?
A huge shift in your responsibilities as you care for your tiny new human?
Overwhelmed when you have to get it together to walk out the door with your baby in tow?
You now have to worry about bringing along so many things for your baby’s comfort, your peace of mind, and baby’s safety, so having time to do your hair, make-up, or coordinate your clothing may currently take a back seat to the needs of your child.
Although you may be excited about the photos we will get of your baby during your newborn photo session, you may be worried about getting it together to step out the door and have a sense of dread over what you look like or what you should wear for the session.
You may feel like your “pretty clothes” no longer fit you correctly as your body has transformed and may not photograph the way it has in the past, or you are simply put: just dead tired and feel like it may show in your face.
Don’t worry.
Don’t stress.
When taking your photos, we will have so many areas of connection we can focus on with your child. You should be in them, but the focus won’t be completely on you.
My studio is relaxing and I’ll be taking care of your baby the majority of your session, so that when it’s time for you to pose, I’ll be cognizant of what you may or may not want to show to the camera. We will show your hands connecting with your child’s hands or feet and we can focus on the mid torso of your body and up. Do you feel like you are tired with dark circles under your eyes or has a break out on your face popped up from hormones? Don’t worry. We have photo shop. We will keep you looking natural, but the most important goal of the session is to show your connection with your baby. These are moments in time you will never get back as your child will grow so rapidly. My hope for you is that your worries don’t overshadow that “future you” will want a memory of you and your precious little one at this stage in their life.
In regards to your clothing….wear what makes you comfortable. It doesn’t matter. I have a white, neutral back drop and anything will look good whether it be super casual or semi-casual. No judgment and there’s no need for formal dress…that will make you look stiff. The pictures are for you, so do what makes you happy. I will be there to let you know just how beautiful you look and remind you that what your body accomplished is nothing short of a miracle. Remind yourself of that daily and let’s capture the love you feel for your child. Happiness is the true beauty I see in mothers each time they walk into my studio.
PS: In case you need styling tips:
- Make sure your nails are clean and in neutral colors, not chipped.
- Start with what Mom wants to wear and dress the family in coordinating colors (if spouse and siblings will join in). Solid colors look best against the white wall. I recommend neutrals, so focus is on the baby.
- Casual styling looks good with newborn photos, so you look comfortable and natural.
- Consider where photos will be displayed when making color choices.
- Hair looks best down in photos.
- You will be barefoot in photos, so you don’t need to worry about shoes.
- Don’t worry about what baby will wear. Baby will be wrapped in a white or cream swaddle.
You can even get dressed and do your make-up at my studio while I’m taking photos of your baby. You will not be rushed to get ready. Give yourself some grace 🙂
