One day, all your children will have are pictures of you.  Make sure you’re in them.  No matter what your hair looks like, your makeup, or your body.  They won’t care about any of that.  They’ll just want to see you.

I saw this quote several years ago and it made me realize that certain moments might get away from you if you’re not in the photo.  It doesn’t matter if you just finished up housework, if you’re outside and sweating, or even if you haven’t had the time to do your makeup or hair.  If the moment is there, take it.  You may never get it back.

Participating in a professional photo session is a way to plan, prepare, and get the best and most cherished photos of your family.

It is proven, according to Salava Photography’s article “Why He (She) Doesn’t Like Being Photographed”, that the “vast majority of people who worry before a photo shoot will end up enjoying the experience in the end”.  You don’t need to stress about what to do.  Your photographer will guide you in how to get the most out of your session and if you’re ever uncomfortable, they’ll move on and won’t make you do a pose you don’t like.  At Friday’s Fotography, we prefer the candid moments anyway, so your session will be comprised of ideas that are fun to encourage you to interact with your “people” in your session and you don’t need to feel like you have to pose and stare uncomfortably at the camera.

Insecurities over how you look, or thinking you don’t have the extra cash are top reasons people avoid scheduling photo sessions.

Don’t we all wish we were a little thinner? Perhaps some of us have issues with how we perceive certain parts of ourselves such as our teeth, arms, legs, or nose.  Maybe you even just tell yourself “I’m not photogenic.”  I’d like to ask that you to give yourself some grace.

What you may not realize is those that love you don’t see what you may observe as imperfections in yourself.  When they see you, they just focus on your character and the joy you bring to them in a laugh or a hug.  We can capture that on camera.  Nowadays if you have an issue with something about yourself, you can tell your photographer and there are some really neat editing tricks that can enlarge one eye if you think your eyes are off balance in a photo, or really pretty much anything you request.  Just ask and don’t be self conscious.  We, as photographers, just want you to be comfortable and capture you in your best light and make edits if you request them.  You have a blemish?  We can take that right off in Photo Shop.

More than anything, there will be a day when someone will want a photo of you and if you’re never in them, it won’t be found.

Another issue may be thinking you can’t afford a photo session.

It is important to see your photo session as an investment and a way to capture a moment in time that you will never get back.  If you put off scheduling a session, you may never do it and regret it later.  Make sure to record your kids in transitional stages in their lives.  If you are a couple, take the photos around your anniversary and celebrate you!  There’s something about taking some time for yourself and the way a photographer will make you feel bringing out your best attributes.  You don’t like to dress up?  That’s ok.  Casual pictures work great, too!

If you have extreme financial issues, please contact me and let me know.  I may be able to offer you a discount, or let you know when to watch for special priced mini sessions.  I could even put you on a list to contact you first if my schedule does not fill and I can offer you a lower rate.

Just take the time, find your beauty as the ones that matter see you, and spend a bit of money.  It’s worth it as professional photos become priceless treasures over time.  You might actually cry looking back and watching how your family changes and, most importantly, they want you in the photos.  Even if you don’t cry, I’d bet the farm that you’ll smile when you look back on any photos that include you with your family.
